The criminological colloquium, held at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg sought to take stock of what is actually known about the relationship between crime, criminal justice and the economy. It focused on such issues as the effects of economic structures on crime, the links between economic cycles and crime trends, the way in which economic circumstances affect imprisonment rates and the extent to which affluence in society and increasing urbanisation affect crime.
